You Already Have Everything You Need

What can I do? That’s a question I’m asking myself about my life situation and the (mostly political) chaos around me today. What can I do? So that I can feel like I’m part of the solution in my own life and in my community and not feel helpless.

The answer, in those moments where I feel like going back to bed is do something. Anything, so long as it isn’t nothing or blanking out.

For me, mostly it’s around the security of where I live, and how I live that feels threatening. It’s the security of my world, and the threats I see against all I hold right and dear.

I’m not the only one asking this question:  It’s being asked by more and more ordinary people every day. Even if what we end up doing only puts us in a calmer place, it’s something useful and worthwhile for us all.

If you’re also asking this question, then like me, you are probably reviewing what resources you have – emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual resources. How can we support ourselves emotionally? Talking to friends, helping others get to a better place, breathing, having something every day that brings us joy.

How can we support ourselves mentally? Making sure we are clear about what is needed and what to expect, getting expert opinion we can trust, writing to those who represent us with our concerns.

How can we support ourselves physically? Eating healthy, exercising, sleeping enough. It’s easier to keep up our physical health if we feel emotionally and mentally in balance. Sometimes, to do that, it helps to go for a walk in a nearby park at lunch or after work, allowing ourselves time to be with Nature and let go of worries and crowded thoughts.

Finally, how can we support ourselves spiritually? I include in this category anything that lifts our spirits. Things such as joining a support network for something you believe in and you can contribute to in a meaningful way, meditating, praying – any act that feeds your spirit and that supports you in being at choice.

These are chaotic times. Even so, each of us have many resources at our disposal that can support us in the best way to weather these times. We already have everything we need!

Quote of the Week

We always have the necessary resources to face the storms that life throws at us, but most of the time, those resources are locked up in the depths of our heart and we waste an enormous amount of time trying to find them. By the time we've found them, we already been defeated by adversity.
