Why Not Now?
Work is hard to find for many of us these days – costs are up and businesses aren’t hiring. The thing about harder times like these is that it can get you considering options you would never look at otherwise. And some of those options, if you’re like me, are ones I dream about but am too comfortable to try. I can get myself into a nice cozy lull with little effort: get up, have coffee, get dressed, get to working on things I am very familiar with, have dinner, get ready for bed, redo next day.
Then something happens that upturns all that comfort. It could send you into doubt and panic. Or it could give you the permission What if you were to try those options you’ve dreamt about?
I remember many years ago in university … there was a retiree who decided to get a degree. He’d had a major heart attack and surprised himself by surviving. That was his impetus to do something he had always dreamed of doing. Why not!
Another thing I remember learning years ago is that hard times are the fertile ground for creating something new, and without that fertile ground – that extra push, creativity isn’t even possible.
I hope I don’t sound flippant talking so lightly about misfortune. I don’t mean to. My point is, now that it’s happening – if it’s happening to you – see if you can begin to approach it as an opportunity for a life you otherwise would never get to have.
After all, what have you got to lose?
Quote of the Week
Think of yourself as dead. You have lived your life. Now take what's left and live it properly.
