When Duty Becomes A Distraction
A friend of mine has been riddled with guilt over several things – he doesn’t want to do them but feels duty-bound to do so. It’s so distracting that he’s finding he isn’t getting his job done or anything else.
I’ve done many things out of duty. In fact, I’ve lived a large part of my life adhering to duty. Sad to say. I can blame it partly on my upbringing, but if I’m really honest, part of it was because following rules made me safe – or supposedly so.
For my friend, it may be for other reasons. Whatever the case, it’s probably not as worth it as he thinks.

Grief is not as heavy as guilt, but it takes more away from you.
