There’s More Than One Way To Live Your Dream

Last week, I wrote about living the dream that is truly yours. I asked how you would know if it was truly yours.

There are so many reasons that the dream you had early in life might morph into something else, not because you abandoned your dream, but because of circumstances.

Here are a few possible reasons:

-        Your initial dream needed you to have a youthful strong physical body, such as a dancer’s body, but you weren’t able to begin to realize your dream until later in life;

-        You needed a higher education to achieve your dream, and that meant acceptance from certain learning institutes. If life prevented you from being accepted into one of those institutes, then your dream – perhaps of becoming a medical doctor or surgeon – would not be realized;

-        You wanted to be a mother but discovered you weren’t able to get pregnant.

The possible reasons for altering your dream are endless.

The point is that life is complex. So complex that we might need to change what our dream looks like for many valid reasons. But that doesn’t mean you must abandon your dream. It simply means that you adopt an attitude of flexibility towards achieving it. For the examples above, becoming a dance teacher or choreographer, becoming a herbalist or health coach, adopting are alternatives, among many others, that may be open to you.

Flexibility and resilience are essential to living fully. Developing clarity about the direction you want to travel is only one aspect of living fully.
