The Courage To Want More

Have you ever had your ideas dismissed, or discounted? I have. And so, probably, has anyone who has had a new or different or even risky-sounding idea.

When that happened to me, it was always from someone who didn’t think or dream like me. The interesting thing for me was I would know in advance that the person I approached for feedback wouldn’t likely resonate with my idea. That, in fact, they didn’t think like me at all, or have my values.

So, why was that person the one I sought feedback and validation from? Why did I need to convince a nay-sayer?

Possibly because I felt some self-doubt. That I wasn’t sure, and perhaps deep down, wanted someone to validate my self-doubting voice.

If you’ve found yourself doing something similar in the past, perhaps it’s time to silence that self-doubting voice and embrace the creative part of you. If you need someone to bounce your ideas off of, choose someone more aligned with your values that really could provide valuable feedback.
