Mirrors

I came across an old article that mentioned mirrors and that got me thinking about how we so often see reflections of ourselves in others. And conversely, serve as reflections to others.

Think about for a second. When I think about it, I’m attracted to people who reflect something I value in myself. I like to believe that others are attracted to me for a similar reason.

More interesting to me, is the number of times I project some characteristic in me that I don’t like onto people I don’t like. It’s like I’m getting rid of that trait simply by placing it on that mirror I see of someone I don’t like.

It doesn’t work – we all know that. But it is tempting.

Quote of the Week

It is an absolute human certainty that no one can know his own beauty or perceive a sense of his own worth until it has been reflected back to him in the mirror of another loving, caring human being.
